Bittersweet Lessons in Life

2014-09-14_0953

Yes, yes … ahhhh, yes. I know, I know. It’s been a day and forever since I scribbled.  I’ve been thinking, working and contemplating many things … I tend to withdraw from most things when I’m in this mode and thus, my lack of wordpressing … and for those of you who have taken the time to email – thanks for that! 🙂

As I get older, I realise that just when you think (believe) that you’ve figured out some things, you’re thrown for a loop.  I am able to deal with the loops much more now than in the past because once you’ve been hurt, you approach people (even those you’ve known a long time and those you’ve just met) with the same caution – so, that you’re not shocked when something happens.

I am, in no way, not a perfect person – I make mistakes and I know that I take responsibility for those mistakes – and I know there are some people who don’t care for me … and that’s their deal – not mine.  In fact, the older I get, those instances become the bittersweet lessons in life.  What you thought ends up not being what you thought at all … for a bit you miss those people, but when you embrace the reality of what and who they are – you just file it away as a lesson learned.

Quite frankly, the two biggest lessons I’ve learned this year is that people who hurt you and think they’ve done nothing wrong and those who make assumptions without even talking to you before they say or write something — aren’t worth your time and have no place in your life.  People say they don’t like getting older — getting older has so many advantages and the most important one to me is: clarity.  And there is NOTHING like clarity! 🙂  And with that being said … I am no longer allowing or giving power to anyone who thinks it’s okay to do or say things that can hurt me. 243898136040565377_PJYF4uLE_cAnd yes, it’s my favourite time of the year … I love the Christmas season because I love giving gifts to my family and friends … I love watching them light up when they open up the gift(s) I buy them … that’s the BEST part of Christmas for me!!!  The early start to the cold weather across the country has seemingly put the majority of people in a good mood.  If I did have at least one wish that could be honoured it would be that all of the hate, violence, jealousy and stupidity would disappear from our entire planet.

Tonight my Seminoles play for the ACC title in Charlotte, NC — I’m happy that they’ve returned for the title and of course, it’s amazing that they are ranked #4 in the CFP rankings even though they are the ONLY team undefeated at 12-0.  I keep hearing about Strength of Schedule (SOS), Conferences, quality wins … what I don’t hear about is how FSU has managed to still win games when they lost a good number of players on both sides of the ball after winning the 2013 National Championship, have had huge distractions courtesy of Jameis Winston and have had to come back in more games this year than any other team in the FBS — and still manage to WIN despite every team coming to take them down.

As I’ve told my friends – it’s good to be the underdog … if FSU plays the way we know they are capable of playing the rest of the season, we’ll be watching them hoist that new, UGLY National Championship trophy – if they don’t play the way they are capable of playing, they’ll end their winning streak and not repeat.  Of course, nothing – to date – has convinced me that they’ll lose the rest of the season.  Nothing would give me great pleasure than to watch my Seminoles win it all again and be able to smile and laugh at ESPN, the CFP Committee and the haters!  So, let’s get to it NoleNation!

So – telly has been pretty good this fall season … Major Crimes, Elementary, The Exes, The Game, Once Upon a Time, Resurrection and Sleepy Hollow … I’ve not watched Gracepoint because it’s nothing more than than the American version of Broadchurch — and according to my friends watching it to compare it — it has been the same exact show — so, if the killer ends up being who it was in Broadchurch, I get the great pleasure of telling a smug Tweeter … I told you, so! 🙂  If not — I’ll be interested in the twist of how it is someone different!

Flag Of Israel

The political climate of the country is going to be interesting over the next two years … And sadly, we’ve seen the lack of experience shine brighter than any accomplishment that the current administration can beat a drum to.  The biggest issue for me — the absolute and utter lack of support for Israel in the Israeli-Hamas conflict.  I refuse to hold the Palestinian people (albeit those who are a part of Hamas or jihadist groups) responsible for the actions of these hate-filled, murderous, less than human animals.

Even recently, the concrete purchased to rebuild Gaza has been sold on the black market — this concrete was purchased with monies from the US and other countries.  When will those chained to political correctness learn that hatred NEVER brings about peace and providing anything to that region controlled by Hamas will never really go to help the people who were living there long before Hamas seized control.  Hamas doesn’t give a damn about the Palestinian people.

I am consistently amazed at the arguments people use to attack Israel and the labeling of Israel as Nazis.  You cannot unprogramme the brainwashed … the anti-Israeli Arabs, Muslims and others are taught to systematically hate Israel and all Jews over and over and over until they believe it is the absolute truth. These people cannot be saved from their ideology because it is permanently embedded in their brains. I have no pity or empathy for any of them … their day is coming and it’s not going to be worth 70 virgins.

And in 2016 – well, for me – even now – I’m making it very clear that I’ll be throwing my time, energy and money behind Hillary Clinton becoming the next POTUS!  I still feel she was robbed of the nomination in 2008 — and like I said then, it had nothing to do with race, but all to do with experience.  And I think the lack of experience has shined through quite clearly.

So, on that note, I have some Amazomin’ and Grouponin’ to do to finalise my Christmas shopping … I hope everyone has a great weekend!  I’ll make no promises to start scribbling again, but I am going to make a concerted effort because I always enjoy getting my thoughts down on this “digital paper” …

Peace,

In the end, love is ALL that really matters

f474d2f9b32ac3f0c47b528b874e9cfa

This week … Sheesh – so much hate running rampant across this planet. It’s sad and well, heart breaking.  I don’t think I can ever truly understand why people choose to hate.  Quite frankly, it takes more time to hate than it does to love or be tolerant of those you might not like or agree with in this world.

So, let me get two things off my chest first …

Flag Of Israel

On Wednesday, the news reported that a division of the Presbyterian Church (USA) had issued a rabid, anti-Israel and anti-Jewish report.  I was shocked, momentarily, until I remembered that the radical elements that had rooted themselves in the hierarchy of the PC (USA) was the reason that I left the Presbyterian Church in 2007.

By Thursday, the mainstream media had picked up the story and Israel, of course, was already standing firmly in defence of their state.  And by midday, the people of the Presbyterian Church had become incredibly vocal in their denouncement of the report.

And although the leadership of the PC (USA) issued a statement that the committee was a ‘branch’ — they still had their anti-Israel information on their main site.  Then, we began to hear how various Synods and Presbyteries began to firmly denounce the actions of the committee and leadership for sanctioning the report and the hate.

If the people find a way to usher the hate mongers out — then the PC (USA) might just be saved from the radical elements that tend to invade the more open reformed faiths.  If they’re not able to push them out — then I’d expect there to be a major split in the PC (USA).  So, long as the hate spurred by this radical element is smashed – that’s all that will matter in the end.

6a00d8341c730253ef01a5117280e1970cThis picture sums up the entire situation in Arizona.  I love how Republicans think they have a special relationship with God because they support hate.  Apparently, their Bible was printed by Satan because – let’s face it — what they’re doing in the name of  their god is HATE and well, the God most people recognise and believe in — was all about LOVE.

I say let them have their ignorant, silly little law.  What needs to happen is every person living in Arizona who vehemently opposes this proposed law — stops spending their money at any business that proudly supports the law and any business that actually throws anyone out.  When their cash flow dries up — let’s see how long they stand on their religious beliefs — and let’s be clear: religion and faith are NOT one in the same.

I think they should replace their little phrase “Welcome to the Grand Canyon State” with “Welcome to the Racist and Hate Mongering State” … and I’m done with this nonsense because it’s typical Republican trash. And quite frankly, I’m tired of so-called Christians using the names of God and Jesus to spew their hate and bigotry.

This song by Hillsong United sum up my ideas … Everyone needs compassion. A love that’s never failing.  Let mercy fall on me. Everyone needs forgiveness. From the pretenders at Westboro Baptist Church to those who enact hatred into law — they need the exact opposite of what they’re dealing – love.  In the end, love is ALL that really matters — and whether you chose to love instead of hate determines a great deal about you and your character.

And that’s all I have to say about all of that hate …

The rest of my week was simply awesome because the weather finally decided to stop freaking out between cold and warm … but the pollen – seriously, the pollen. I’ll be glad when I’m allowed to take my allergy shots again.

the-carrie-diaries-13-1024x768

So, through the grapevine, I’ve heard a few tv shows have been axed – so far, only one I was watching got canned — The Carrie Diaries.  At the start of the second season, I was really into the show and hopeful, but now … well, it started dragging.  And dragging. And :::thump::: died three episodes from the end.

What it lacked, in the end, was speed and good writing – bottom line.  It really had a chance at its inception and mid way through it’s second season; however, I think when it began to totter, they should have found a way to bring in some of the original writers of Sex and the City … it would have perhaps survived.

I was so intent with Sherlock being back on and now, I find out … they only filmed three episodes for the third season? REALLY? Not feeling this – at all.  I will say the entire mini-season was epic and quite brilliant! For those who haven’t yet seen this season – I’m not a spoiler … so, you needn’t worry about getting any details. But seriously, BBC … don’t make any of us wait quite so long this time for the next season.

As of late, I’ve been receiving lots of emails regarding my posting of quotes as of late (it would be okay for you click the “like” for those posts and send email 😉 ) and so, I’ve decided I’ll share a few each time I scribble down my thoughts as well …

Much love,

Never, never, never …

No matter what … it’s going to get better if you stick to the plan! 🙂  That’s what my therapist has said when I’ve been ready to throw my hands up and run out of her office screaming.  I think to myself, “How can it get better if the problem (person) is still around?”

I’m pretty easy to get along with, but when confronted by the issues of someone else — that look like a lifelong subscription to drama — and they’re pretending they’ve nothing to do with what’s going on and they’ve caused no rifts … it gets to you after awhile.  And let’s face it – ignoring someone isn’t always an easy thing.

And I must mention this entire Hamas thing – again.  The protesting that took place in San Francisco yesterday, outside of the Israeli Consulate … made me mad as hell.  A bunch of punk-ass, granola eating hippies chanting racist, anti-Semitic slurs about Israel.

I wish people would take the time to research the issue before choosing a side because it’s – you know, picking a side without any knowledge is supposedly the right thing to do a/k/a  POLITICALLY CORRECT. Perhaps the best thing I saw all day was this post on Tumblr:

Can you give me 5 good reasons why?

  1. It doesn’t use women and children as human shields.
  2. It’s the only true democracy in the Middle East.
  3. It is entitled to the right of self defense.
  4. I stand against the global anti-semitism that has been going on since the foundation of the Jewish religion.
  5. They have universal rights for every citizen.  Homosexuals are not executed in the streets unlike their Arab neighbors.  They do not enslave women unlike their Arab neighbors.
    More like
    1. They bomb women and children.
    2. Doesn’t accept the government elected by it’s people unless it’s to their benefit. Also starts bloody proxy civil wars in countries arming Muslims extremist and trading one devil for other they think they could control.
    3. Feels it is entitled to sustain a blockade of basic health provisions, food and humanitarian aid.(remember when they illegally border a Turkish ship  with unarmed  activist on board and killed ten of them while the ship was  in international waters.)
    4. I bet who ever made this isn’t even Jewish, while I totally understand that some people hate Israel and would love to destroy, I really don’t see that as an excuse to let Israel to do as they wish without any consequences. It’s not anti-Semitism to criticize it’s government and foreign  policy.
    5. Just because Israel doesn’t treat women and homosexuals as second class citizens doesn’t mean they should get away with the way they treat the Palestinians. With no respect at all and stealing their human dignity by denying them basic human rights.

Oh, you must be talking about Hamas about bombing women and children.  Using suicide bombers on cafes and buses, and indiscriminately firing missiles at civilians targets inside Israel.  While also using civilian buildings, hospitals, mosques, and schools as headquarters, firing points, and storage areas.

Hamas is a terrorist organization that threatens the security of Israel.  If Al-Queda was elected in Mexico, do you honestly think the U.S. would sit idly by while an openly hostile group took control?  I think not.

The blockade is in response to the constant attacks from Hamas.  Israel supplies many necessities to Gaza, electricity and water, for example.  These resources are usually taken by Hamas to be used in their war against Israel, leaving the citizens with nothing.

In the case of the Turkish ship, the UN investigation has found that the “unarmed” activist had in fact attacked the Israeli commandoes first, leading to the struggle.  Admittedly, the same report pointed out that Israel had used excessive force.

It should also be pointed out that in July 2011, the United Nations committee in charge of investigating the incident ruled that the blockade of Gaza was legal.

As for your “unarmed” activists, aboard the flotilla, the following were found:

  • Knives
  • Clubs
  • Slingshots with marble projectiles
  • Bulletproof vests
  • Gas masks
  • Night Vision Goggles
  • Flash grenades used against the IDF commandoes

Your statement claiming only Jews can support Israel is complete nonsense.  I’m an atheist.  In theory, I should be opposed to the idea of a Jewish state just as much as I oppose an Islamist or Christian state.  However, Israel lives in a negative light simply because they are Jewish.  History has not been kind to the Jews, and it continues to be that way.  In the minds of people like you, the Jewish people of Israel will always be the bad guys simply because they are just that, Jewish.

Yes, let’s talk about the Palestinian rights in Israel.  13 of the 120 members of the Knesset are Palestinian Arabs.  A Palestinian Arab sits on the Israeli Supreme Court.  In 2002, 6% of Israel’s civil servants were Palestinian Arabs.  In 2004, Israel required by law that every state-run company must have one Arab on their board of directors.  There are also numerous Israeli Arab generals in the IDF, one of which is in charge of the borders.

I don’t think there’s much that can be said to that.  And as always, my support — 210% — is behind Israel.

So, now … I’ve errands to run, lunch with a good friend and general nothingness to do!   Here’s to hoping that none of you – my precious readers – is having a “You Gotta Be Friggin’ Kidding Me!” kinda week! 🙂

Hugs,

REMEMBER THIS PICTURE

I hate that lives are lost in conflicts; however, the next time you hear Hamas talk about Israeli air strikes killing their children in Palestine … REMEMBER THIS PICTURE.

Hamas doesn’t care about their own people — they hide in residential areas to send their rockets into Israel on a daily basis and then cry foul when Israel responds after repeated rocket attacks.

I will forever support Israel’s right to exist and defend itself!!!

Reflections when you’re wide awake …

If there is a draw back to the digital age of music … it’s that we can pick and choose what tracks we want off a new album without, well – you know,  purchasing the entire album.

It doesn’t happen often, but there’s always that one song you never heard and when you hear it – it immediately becomes an instant epiphany.  And that’s the case with the song Wide Awake by Katy Perry.

This song … I’m not even sure I can even translate what I’m thinking, feeling, understanding …

I’m wide awake
Yeah, I was in the dark
I was falling hard
With an open heart
I’m wide awake
How did I read the stars so wrong?
I’m wide awake
And now it’s clear to me
That everything you see
Ain’t always what it seems
I’m wide awake
Yeah, I was dreaming for so long

I’m wide awake
Not losing any sleep
I picked up every piece
And landed on my feet
I’m wide awake
Need nothing to complete myself, no

I’m wide awake
Yeah, I am born again
Out of the lion’s den
I don’t have to pretend
And it’s too late
The story’s over now, the end

I wish I knew then
What I know now
Wouldn’t dive in
Wouldn’t bow down
Gravity hurts
You made it so sweet
‘Til I woke up on
On the concrete

Falling from cloud 9 (it was out of the blue)
I’m crashing from the high
I’m letting go tonight (yeah, I’m letting you go)
I’m falling from cloud 9

I’m wide awake
Thunder rumbling
Castles crumbling
I’m wide awake
I am trying to hold on
I’m wide awake
God knows that I tried
Seeing the bright side
I’m wide awake
But I’m not blind anymore…

I’m wide awake
I’m wide awake

Yeah, I’m falling from cloud 9 (it was out of the blue)
I’m crashing from the high
You know I’m letting go tonight (yeah, I’m letting you go)
I’m falling from cloud 9

I’m wide awake
I’m wide awake
I’m wide awake
I’m wide awake
I’m wide awake

And of course, if just reading the lyrics weren’t enough … try listening to it here:

Of course my connection with this song is the entire premise of what it’s like to wake up and finally begin to realise where you have been and where you want to go. 🙂

Part of this journey has been dealing with the past where people used me in various ways and I think I actually carry scars from being asked to be the alibi for people I thought were my friends — and ultimately when the chips fell and I needed support — they were no longer there for me.

I’m with Carrie Bradshaw on the “can you truly forgive if you can’t forget” train for situations like that!  No matter what, I am in a better place now and know who to give my love, trust and loyalty to in my life!

The journey to happiness continues and it gets better and better every single day … because I’m getting better with understanding that not everyone has to go on the journey with me! 🙂

This past weekend, I flew to NY for the weekend and had the chance to have a great time with my friends there, but also witnessing the damage to many parts of the city and its Burroughs.

I never went to Staten Island but did make it to Rockaway Beach in Queens and was overwhelmed by what I saw.  It is truly amazing – and not in a good way – to view the power of nature and its effect upon communities. 😦

I had the chance to visit, again, the 9/11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan and this time … it wasn’t crowded and it – even now – still seems surreal to me that the Twin Towers are forever gone.

I don’t think anyone who ever visited NY pre-9/11 could ever truly understand what is no longer there.  😦   I will never grow tired with NY as there are and will always be new adventures there when I return. 🙂

The Nole Nation had dreams at the start of marching, unstopped, into the BCS National Championship game; however, some beyond frustrating and RIDICULOUS play calling against N.C. State flung the Seminoles out of the race.  I could go on and on about Jimbo Fisher; however, I’m not wasting anymore time complaining about his bi-polar play calling in games that MATTER.

What I am happy about and I know the players are happy about … a 9-1 record.  That record is a true testament to the fact that FSU has experienced and seemingly (hopefully) understand adversity and how to take it by the horns and sling it to the wayside.

That’s just what happened at Virginia Tech on a cold Thursday night.  And yes, for the record let me state just how much I detest and HATE Thursday night games — FSU has never fared well … until recently. 🙂 Down 22-20 with 2.19 left to go, EJ Manuel orchestrated a 52-yard game winning drive.

A drive not punctuated with one RUNNING PLAY  – that had failed ALL BLOODY NIGHT LONG and yet, Jimbo Fisher just couldn’t seem to get it.  Perhaps that’s his problem — he comes in with one plan and one plan only … I’ve never coached, but I’m smart enough to know if you’ve got -15 yards in total rushing (and you’ve had a pretty phenomenal running game all season UNTIL this game) that you don’t keep going to it … over and over and over and over again. Note my frustration.

So, I credit the win over Virginia Tech solely to EJ Manuel who simply did what he knows how to do: lead his team down the field.  Of course, now, the media is calling Maryland’s defense one that should not be overlooked and well, it is a road game.

So, let’s hope Jimbo has more than one game plan just in case FSU’s running game is put on ice and of course, let’s all take note — listen up Jimbo … gotta win this one to make to Charlotte on 1 December for the ACC Championship and of course, there’s the little rivalry game coming to Tallahassee … although they think (the Gators) they’re going to come in and just and I quote, “demolish FSU” … LOL. 😛

And in the Middle East, Israel has finally had enough of the daily Hamas rocket bombardment and has struck hard at the heart of Hamas.  Many people shy away from this topic; however, I’m not one them.   If a line is to be drawn in the sand, then it’s quite easy for me to choose a side … the loss of any human life in this conflict is tragic; however, Israel has a right to defend themselves from the daily assaults of Hamas. Period.

President Anwar Sadat’s words, in 1979, to the new found peace between Egypt and Israel still carry great value even today:

“Let there be no more wars or bloodshed between Arabs and Israelis—let there be no more wars or bloodshed between Arabs and Israelis. Let there be no more suffering or denial of rights. Let there be no more despair or loss of faith. Let no mother lament the loss of her child. Let no young man waste his life on a conflict from which no one benefits. Let us work together until the day comes when they beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. And God does call to the abode of peace. He does guide whom He pleases to His way.”
I’ve been so busy that I’ve really not been watching any telly; however, it’s all waiting for me on TiVO and of course, I’ve a week to catch up, up, up! 🙂  I hope everyone has a great weekend … I know I’ll have a great weekend because I’m going to do absolutely NOTHING. 🙂  I’m sure I’ll be posting more this week as I’ll not be “working” … No jealousy, please! 🙂
Shalom,
