Some who surround you
Some you are destined to meet
You’ll have more love in your life …
It really does get better …
I’ve been away. Oh, you noticed. 🙂 As ‘witnessed’ by the number of emails I’ve received from many of you. I think I was able to post everyone back … life has a funny of way of throwing you for a loop. My journey back to my own, personal happiness … derailed for a bit, but I’m back on track albeit the sadness surrounding my grandmother.
I’m lucky, among few, to still have living grandparents … and this grandmum — she’s 92. Of course, so many people say, “Wow. At least she’s lived a good life.” Is that supposed to be some sort of consolation? This world scares me too death … the lack of humanity that exudes from the youngest generation makes me want to run away screaming like I’m on fire. ::: SMH :::
So, my grandmum has congestive heart failure — which means … it could come at any moment. We’ve had those “gather everyone together” moments … several times, but she has always managed to fight it off and defy the odds. I don’t know if I’m being selfish because I still want her here with us; however, I don’t want her to suffer and want her to go in her own time and on her own terms.
Therapy has – obviously – been quadrupled up because this isn’t something I’m ready to deal with – now or well, frankly: EVER. Yes, I’m one of those people. I know that the people that matter most to us have to go one day. That’s what my head says, but my heart – well, it feels differently. Thanks to my lovely therapist … this moment I’m going through right now is ‘easier’ because of clarity.
Today was one of my visits. She remembered me. She smiled at me. She told me that she loved me. And she waved at me whilst we were sitting in the silence … I waved back and smiled. Today had to be one of my most precious moments with her that I’ve ever had despite her barely speaking. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. There aren’t enough words in the English language to express what she means to me … how much I love her. So, for now … we wait for the inevitable. 😦
Aside from that, I’ve been going pretty well … just extremely busy with work and yes, it has simply become work. Whenever others think something is a good idea, but don’t have to do it themselves … well, it becomes work. Of course, I’ve decided that I’ll not be working outside the confines of my work day anymore. Period. And this makes me smile, smile, smile … all the time because it’s the best kind of ‘revenge’!
So, I just watched Katy Perry – Part of Me … it reaffirmed why I love this girl so much. We’re totally on the same page … in utterly a bajillion ways. And her lyrics … well, they breathe life into me … and make me contemplate life on a broader scope.
And what I didn’t know was that during the filming of this project was when Russell Brand filed for divorce. He was: heartless, thoughtless, selfish and well, an asshole.
Probably the song I love the best – and let’s face it that’s a hard choice to make – is FIREWORK … if you’ve not heard it — take a listen below and if you’ve heard it — listen again — it NEVER gets old … right now this is my theme song – it’s helping me remember that no matter what might be going on … I’m a firework. 🙂
And of course, you might be wondering what I’m watching on telly now …
Yes, I am watching it … why wouldn’t I give it a chance? I’m a certified Sex and the City (SATC) fan and I have to say that it’s more than I expected. Plus, if you’re a Doctor Who or Torchwood fan — you have to watch it to just see what Freema Agyeman brings to the show.
So far, I’m not disappointed. Of course, there’s one annoying character and that’s Carrie’s little sister … who, thankfully, we never had to see or endure in SATC. 🙂
And well, where have I been … I got sucked into Downton Abbey during the middle of S2 via PBS. So far, I’ve enjoyed every single millisecond of the show — and Maggie Smith — well, she’s not the nicest character and it’s nice to see her … snippy side.
Of course, just like any show — it has its tear-jerking moments and of course the attempts of bring the 21st Century back a century to explore issues that were – most definitely – not acceptable … at all.
And then, there’s Arrow. I’m still hanging in there with this one … although, I think it might not survive — just The Secret Circle didn’t survive last year. 😦 The premise of the show is great, but I’m not sure the writers are always able to pull it off. Some of the casting is brilliant whilst some of it — well, makes you wonder — how did that person land the role. I’m hoping it survives.
And that’s it for now … yes, I’m back at least once a week … if not more. 🙂 I’ve always got something to say – like it or not. I hope everyone has a great week … in two weeks I’ll be on another holiday — yes, you heard it — another holiday! 😉
Cheers to the freakin’ weekend … I’ll drink to that! My footing has become even better over the course of the past couple of days!!! I know I still have a way to get back to complete, happy, ‘by-the-seat-of-his-pants’ Bryce, but there’s a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel!!!! I think when you’re down … even your ability to stay 110% healthy is affected … so, I can report that everything is on the mend on all fronts! I know this to be true because I’m jamming out to music on a regular, consistent basis as of late … and anyone who knows me knows that I live for my music! 🙂
I’m happy that the weekend is officially upon us … I was extremely happy at work today with my entire staff — they knocked everything out of the ballpark !!! It’s always a great feeling when you can leave work and know that everything is going to be 110% okay!!! There’s no better way to start off a weekend!!! I think it also helped that I played loud dance music at work today so that I could focus and get my work done super-duper early! Woot-woot!
So, did some TiVO catch-up … watched Real Housewives of NYC (yes, I watch it!), The Real World: St. Thomas and The Exes … Okay, I’m loving Heather on RHoNYC — she’s a good dose of REALITY for freaking Ramona! I’m glad that Heather is standing her ground, as you can see above from our tweeting! I think Sonja summed it up quite nicely — “What is this? The 5th Grade? Not everybody gets invited to the birthday party.” BAM!
Now on to the latest instalment of The Real World … so far, so good too weird — just too much clingy-ness already — it seems almost desperate and I really don’t have a favourite person in the house — and after two eps, I usually have picked someone that I love to watch :::sigh::: For the record – I’ll hang in there for a few more eps before I decide if I need to just … un-TiVO it! 🙂 Besides, who doesn’t love seeing St Thomas featured in a reality show and come on — they freaking LIVE on an island!!
Now, of course … The Exes is definitely my new favourite sitcom — I laugh really hard during every episode and that means, I always watch it a second time to make sure I didn’t miss anything else because I was laughing at Kristen Johnston — she, definitely, makes the show, but the rest of the cast is fricking funny, too! This week’s ep was hysterical … the best, ever foot-gasm!!! If you’re not watching this show — you’re really, truly MISSING out!!!! It’s on TVLand on Wednesdays at 10.30 PM EST. In fact, I haven’t heard from Kristen in a while on Twitter … her last two tweets were … well, you decide:
She’s hysterical! Anyway, if you have a twitter handle — you should probably go follow her … you’ll laugh because she’s completely real, uncut and there are no apologies! So, I think there’s going to be a catch-up completely on TiVO Saturday followed by a Will & Grace marathon this Sunday … yes, complete with Ben & Jerry’s — sushi — and lime water! Woot-woot! Yes, I know too much TV, but I’m way too far gone at this point to really care!!! 🙂
So, here’s to a great, great, great weekend … and of course, you know that I’m posting pictures next — so, you prolly need to stay tuned! 🙂
I’m feeling really good today … I took the time to vent to my friend, Lauren, yesterday (my therapist said it’s good to communicate with people that I trust) because she knows what I’ve been going through. I’m thankful for having a handful of people that I know that I can trust in my life – it’s a part of the process and the road hasn’t been as bumpy as of late. A lot of people simply get bogged down – they forget to keep moving forward, but thank God that I’ve always been a ‘keep going no matter how bad I feel’ person. I have a driving spirit and I am eternally grateful! 🙂
So, one of my “happy places” is watching the ole telly … yes, God gave someone the infinite wisdom to invent TiVO. 🙂 So, if you’ve looked at my links, to the right – to the right — now dip baby dip — hee hee … Anyway, yes — links to some of my favourite shows on telly … you’ll see The Nate Berkus Show … 🙂 I love, love, love Nate Berkus. In fact, he’s the inspiration behind a lot of the design in my house … I love his entire ‘mix-n-match’ approach to design. It has, in fact, rubbed off in my house!
One of my favourite shelves includes items from my childhood … You can see the top shelf one of my best Home Goods finds ever … the word ‘Dream’ — it was on clearance for $6 — I found it on eBay selling, at its lowest price, at $40 … so, score! You’ll also see a photo frame to the left — that’s holding photo booth pictures of my Dad and I — it’s the one featured as my LOGO … I love that it’s in black & white! There’s a small Hardy Boys book, a Disney flip book (circa 1974), a London Call Box bank ( I love, love, love that piece), pins from London, a Mickey Mouse wind-up clock (circa 1967) and Tigger in a devil costume! That shelf also houses a wood sculpture, one of my bow ties from my childhood and two Lego men pins from Lego Mindstorms.
The next shelf holds copies of first edition Hardy Boys books … they’re hard to find, but I buy them when I find them! It also has an original Tigger (the one that actually looks like a Tiger) from my Papa Ross and another Tigger dressed as Indiana Jones. The small metal box is like a mini ‘locker’ of sorts — I found it at a flea market and talked the price down from $20 to $10. The next shelf holds more Tigger beanies and all of the books left from childhood … some of my favourites include Charlie Brown!
When I moved into my first house, I remember being worried that all of the frames on pictures had to match … and I did that for a very, very long time, but when I discovered Nate, I learned that you could mix-n-match EVERYTHING … photos, art, furniture! I’ve used that mantra since seeing him on Oprah and when I’ve found a piece I really liked and could get it for what I wanted to pay – it has become a part of my ever growing collection of ‘stuff’ — I try to keep everything organised, but it does get a bit crazy at times!
My cousin Heather, who I love, love, love 🙂 introduced a money trap to me when I visited her back in 2011 … it’s called Hobby Lobby and I was hooked immediately. It’s full of great stuff – at reasonable prices – to spice up just about any place you want to add a flair of design too! I’ve been pretty good about not going into debt because I’m all about sales and finding more for less! There are a couple of pieces I want from Hobby Lobby right now, but I’m saving up for them — they’re card catalogues one is a 12-drawer and a 15-drawer … I hope they’ll be around since I live about 39 miles from the nearest store! Heather is a stitcher (I don’t know what else to call it) and she made me some of the cutest Ziggy patterns — which I’m having framed and they’ll hang in my office in the fall!
I’ve rambled enough … I’m really starting to feel like I’m getting back on the right path and that makes me know that the future is looking better and better every single day! 🙂
Life can be hectic at times, but it’s important that we all remember the simple things. It’s the simple things that give life fullness and direction.
I’ve been meaning to post, but I’ve been so incredibly busy — now that college football season is here and I’m fully vested in my new position (and HAPPY!) … I just don’t make time. Of course, never totally sure just how many people actually read this journal … I see that it is being read because of the stats thing. 🙂 So, here’s the quick update on telly … RHoNJ — Delusional Danielle was let go … apparently, Danielle cannot even take responsibililty for ANYTHING even when it’s ON FILM — good riddance … hopefully, the show will be better next season … Real World: New Orleans – The roomies kicked Ryan out (hooray) and enjoyed their last few weeks with virtually no chaos, missing pills or other anti-social, passive-aggressive Ryan crap (cannot wait to see the Reunion when everyone gets to totally blast him based upon the footage seen — especially Preston!) … The Closer – Brenda Lee wasn’t selected to be the Chief of Police — despite saving a large number of police officers, firefighters, et al. from a maniac … I don’t like the guy that did get the position & I hope he’s not a regular on the show … Leverage – What a great season … cannot wait for the follow-up. 🙂 … Rizzoli & Isles – Cliffhanger ending — I think someone is going to die and I know it won’t be Jane since she’s a leading character … not a big fan of the cliffhanger endings and this won’t be resolved until December! Now, this week is big premier week … Hawaii 5-0 (CBS), Bones (Fox), The Big Bang Theory (CBS) and Fringe (Fox).
Of course, we’re in full swing with the college football season … FSU is now 2-1 — with wins over Samford (59-6) and BYU (34-10) and the loss to Oklahoma (47-17). It seemed to me — as a spectator @ Doak Campbell yesterday (18 Sept) that FSU learned valuable lessons from their loss to Oklahoma … Ponder (7) had a pretty good day 14-21- 0 for 149 yards and 1 touchdown — although he did seem to be little lackluster in the first half … but FSU ran for 278 yards in their 427 total yards on offense. The ‘D’ stepped it up yesterday and they’re going to have to in order to be the dominate force they once were! I watched the THRILLER between Auburn & Clemson — I really ‘hate’ both teams; however, I ‘hate’ Clemson even more (I don’t care about the ACC connection) and so, I cheered for Auburn for the ENTIRE game and loved watching Dabo Sweeney almost cry after they lost in OT! Texas scared me as well … they really allowed Texas Tech to keep things close for way too long even in the second half — at least FSU pulled away from BYU midway during the 3rd Quarter — the Longhorns let Tech hang around way too long!
John Mayer’s new album — new to me at least — is absolutely incredible … here’s one of my favourite songs –
Well, that’s enough rambling from me … I’ve got some movies to watch! Hope everyone has a GREAT week! 🙂
Ribbit, ribbit –
