that proverbial bridge you’ve heard tale of…

Let me say, again, that therapy is so worth your co-pay and time. I cannot even begin to tell any of you just how incredible it is to be clear, focused and on point in the midst of a storm of lies. It’s like it’s all in slow-motion – you know, like a Bruce Lee action shot.

Of course, the fallout after such a storm usually involves regret. This post, however, isn’t about regret at all … it’s the exact opposite of regret: standing your ground because you’ve had enough.

One thing 99.9% of the people, that truly know me, will tell you is that I am laid back and I’m nice … until you give me a reason NOT to be nice. I think the absolute BEST thing to come out of therapy [ a/k/a my journey back to my own happiness ] is that I will not idly sit back or stand by and allow my name or character — or for that matter, that of the people I love and care about … be trampled by someone attempting to save face.

And that proverbial bridge that you’ve heard tale of … You know – the one that connects two people – I watched it burn and fall into oblivion.
Now for the telly recap … It seems that the season finale of the RHoNJ is going to be the tipping point and not in favour of Teresa. I’ve tried to read comments on Caroline’s blog on Bravo’s site; however, I get frustrated after a while.

I’m amazed, and not in a good way, about how many people seem to think that what Teresa said in her cookbook was a joke. The big question is … would Teresa have been laughing? I think we all know the answer to that question.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense would realise that nobody but Teresa and her delusional fans are laughing.

I never found one thing funny about it and I don’t think you can offer a sincere apology when you “think” you’ve done nothing wrong.

Yes, I know — I am watching this show full of drama, but I like watching someone tell it like it is … maybe I channelled a little Caroline earlier this week? 🙂

You know, I’m kinda into Major Crimes now … I think perhaps it’s because I’m – you too? – seeing a softer, more likeable side of Sharon Raydor … and I think she’s become accustomed to Rusty and I think she might even like being his stand-in “Mom” … the writers have me hooked and so, for now, I’m staying put.

Last week’s episode was heart-wrenching because of the fact that the kidnapped teens never had a chance from the onset. While it’s not The Closer, it’s still the same team — well, almost.

And now, FSU enters the start of their ACC schedule with Wake Forest coming to Doak Campbell. I’m excited. I’m nervous. I’m ready.

You’d think I’m playing in the game! I’m just anxious because it’s been a while since there’s been this much excitement around the Seminole Nation.

Although Wake Forest is not going to be a cake-walk — at least not at the start if FSU plays their game –the true test comes when Clemson roars into Tallahassee next weekend. Let me assure you, there is no love lost between FSU and Clemson. Next to Miami and Florida – Clemson is the other one. And if your a Seminole, you know exactly what I’m talking about!

With Boyd, Watkins and Ellington … FSU will definitely have their hands full; however, I think being at home and well, with such an experienced line on both sides of the ball … FSU will take it to Clemson. I am ready to see a Clemson massacre!

I know one thing for sure, I’m feeling better and better every single day … and most definitely, absolutely, 100% …

Here’s to a great weekend!

Shalom,

P.S. Ain’t that the truth?! 🙂

wise and witty prescriptions for living

What would life be without the wise and witty prescriptions for living from the doctor himself?  I think everyone should fill their quote libraries full of quotes and Seuss-isms from Dr Seuss … his approach to life and the many complex social issues … they’ve endured time and I imagine will span infinity as well.

Things are going much better as of late … of course there are hiccups here and there, but overall — my journey is less bumpy and that means that I’m happier, relaxed and have a clearer head. 🙂  I, honestly, don’t know why people think therapy is a bad thing … it’s one of the most liberating experiences you can have because the person isn’t going to agree with you like most of your friends would or judge  you like some of your friends would.

Perhaps the most important thing I think I’ve learned and it really should be no secret that no matter how old you might be or where you are in life – you can make a change and it’s important to know, realise and understand that  it’s never too late, ever. 🙂

Caroline Manzo.

Okay, so I watched one of my guilty-pleasure shows last night … The Real Housewives of New Jersey (#RHONJ) and yes, yes, yes – I know, but I’m sorry – I love this show.  And the episode last night … it was one for the books.

Finally someone told Teresa Guidice (I laugh everytime I hear Andy Cohen say her last name the new way — ROFLMAO) exactly what people with common sense have known about her forever … she’s absolutely, totally, undeniably, without question, 110% DELUSIONAL.

I love Caroline Manzo and I’ll always be Team Caroline because she’s never had anything to hide.  Teresa, on the other hand, is all about deny, deny, deny … and when the truth catches up to her – it’s lie, lie, lie.

And the best part of the entire evening battle … when Teresa was offended about a joke made at her expense in a publication and everyone — and I mean everyone —  looked at Teresa and repeated her words right back to her: “It was only a joke” … “It didn’t mean anything” and that sent Teresa over the edge.

Kathy tried her very best to point out that a joke at one’s expense isn’t really funny if you’re don’t perceive it as a joke; however, Teresa maintained her stance that she meant nothing about the 1/16th Italian poke at Caroline in her cookbook and that she had said she was sorry.

I love the fact that Caroline won’t back down to Teresa. Obviously, none of us knows everything that’s going on with Caroline and her sister, Dina; however, I’ll say that Dina has crossed a line and it appears that we’ll see and hear all of that in next weeks episode.

With a sister like Dina, Caroline needs no more enemies.  It’s a sad commentary when your own flesh and blood turn on you … shame on you, Dina.

How prophetic was this tweet in November 2011?

As for my other tv shows … The Exes continues to make me laugh and laugh and laugh; Major Crimes – are the same writers from The Closer working on this show? I’m not sure it’s going to make it; It’s about to get really good on The Real Housewives of NYC … cannot wait for tonight’s episode because of the shot fired by Aviva (not a big fan of hers) … “Quite frankly, you’re both white trash.” Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy; Leverage, for me, always delivers … it’s quirky approach and the mystery between Nate and Elliot – haven’t you noticed it?

As for Fall TV goes …  Once Upon a Time returns 30 September and I’m so excited for it; The Secret Circle won’t return to the airwaves for a second season – at least not anytime soon and well, that’s it other than Falling Skies and Rizzoli & Isles are on hiatus as they sleep on their little break … and that’s about all I have to say about my favourite telly shows well, except for …

Season 3 of BBC’s big hit Sherlock won’t be coming back anytime soon as its filming begins in 2013; however, the good news is that it is coming back — why the wait?

Both of the leads – Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have been in very high demand since the shows premiere.  So, if your Sherlock Holmes fan — looks like you’ll have to wait until Summer 2013 for the third season, but – in my opinion – well worth the wait!

There seem to be a few movies coming out really soon that I think I want to see … LawlessThe Possession, and House at the End of the Street … I’m not always that big on horror flicks, but I really want to see The Possession and House at the End of the Street.

The Possession centres on demons that must be dealt with by Rabbis — from Jewish lore and passed down for centuries these stories have been kept secretive and apparently this is a true account of what this dibbuk has done to several owners.

House at the End of the Street – it looks like it’s one of those, “Don’t go in there!” types of movies – which I like and of course, could never watch alone!

And Lawless, well that just goes back in time to prohibition — tommy guns and moonshine – you know that it’s going to be as great as The Untouchables and Bonnie and Clyde. My sister bought me a few Fandango movie gift cards and well, I think it’s time to put them to use! 🙂

So, that’s it … just more ramblings from a happy-go-lucky bloke who’s happier than words could ever express, but who knows the journey is far from over!  I hope everyone has a great week and here’s to watching re-runs on other channels whilst the Republican National Convention “dominates” the mainstream airwaves.

Shalom,

Disappointment has a name, it’s heartbreak warfare…

:::Take One:::

Rant: I’m back … And no, it’s not a “good thing” …  I think I deserve an additional two days because of constant interruptions I had to endure on the first two days of my holiday (Monday and Tuesday) at the hands of people who must think, apparently,  it’s okay to call and text whilst I’m on HOLIDAY.  Yes, I’m still pissed off about it. An absolute lack of consideration for my PERSONAL TIME. And needless to say … SELFISH INDIVIDUALS!

<end rant>

:::Take Two:::

With all of that nonsense you’d prolly think I didn’t have a good holiday, but it turned out to be really good! 🙂  I had a good time with family — my cousin Heather let me crash with her and her signifcant other, Greg — aka Gregums … we had loads of fun!  I got to spend time with my cousin – like a brother – Rob and his wife Veronica (Lil’ Rob’s parents – who we lost to gun violence on 29 Dec 2010) along with Leann, Isis, Isabel and Rashid … and my other cousin – like a brother, too – Christopher and his family as well.

Had a great sushi lunch with Veronica, Erika and Monique … it was great to see everyone — plus, I got to be around one of my favourite aunts — my Aunt Bobbie and of course, the prankster himself – Uncle Robert. 🙂  I always enjoy myself when I visit with them!  The rest of the time, I spent time with my Grandmother and enjoyed being with her (my Mom’s mother) — she had a stroke back in February and is still recovering.  She’s getting much better every single day! 🙂

Then I spent two days at a Holocaust conference in Chattanooga and Whitwell, Tennessee.  As many of you may or may not know, I wrote my minor thesis on the Holocaust — with particular focus on the European Jews (6M) murdered – along with 6M others (i.e. Political prisoners, religions, sexual orientation, mental health, et al.).  So, this conference deals with the brilliant documentary (that won some serious awards) called Paper Clips.

The second day was so incredible as we were transported to Whitwell Middle School where the Children’s Holocaust Memorial stands now.  We had an awesome opportunity to hear Linda Hooper, the principal at Whitwell Middle from 1994-2010, speak about the original project, the movie and its current status (which, I might add is ALIVE and doing extremely well!!).  I had the chance to discuss and learn more from many educators from around the US and Canada.  These are people I now consider friends — we experienced a lot during the conference! I am glad that I attended it … I learned a great deal more than I already knew.

So, I’ve missed three weeks of therapy … but I’ll be glad to be back there this coming Friday.  Of course, I will prolly need it once I spend the next few days back at my little job … Of course, I’m determined to ignore the drama and just plow through it all — and just keep driving toward my happiness at full-speed.

Aside from the crap of people seemingly going out of their way to ruin my holiday, I am generally more happy now than I have been in a long while — and we can thank Dr Kim and her “boxing people” out of my life.  I have listened to tons and tons of music whilst on this little trek — and one song I love more than ever is Heartbreak Warfare (John Mayer) and in those lyrics are a gem … “Disappointment has a name, it’s heartbreak warfare” and is that spot on or what?

And after feeling so much better in the past few weeks and anticipating that I’m going to keep moving in that direction, I can say – without any doubt – that I’m going to be able to ‘box-out’ people who do nothing but engage in sucking the happiness out of the world with their drama and negativity – whether it’s at work or in my personal life.  Dr Kim said that once I began to find the ‘old Bryce’ … I’d do anything, necessary, to get it all back. And she’s right about that … nothing, nobody is going to stand in my way of being happy. Period.

Needless to say … TiVO got a ‘work-out’ today … I caught up with everything I’ve missed for a week … The Closer – hopefully this was the bust episode of the six-episode finale; The Exes was an absolute riot — it was reminiscent of the Will & Grace wonder bra ep; HousewivesNYC = me definitely not liking Carole even more – she’s a smug bitch and it’s not the least bit attractive and of course, the Ramona theatrics continue; NJ = Team Caroline & Team Jacqueline even more and more and more … plus, Kathy & Melissa are smart – they know WHY the Guidice is back in their lives … cannot wait for the other shoe to drop and way too many eps of The Nate Berkus Show to even talk about!  For that matter — way too many other shows to talk about!

I hear the pitter-patter of little paws and I’m getting the hint that there might be a flood of biblical proportions if I don’t take a walk outside … So, on that note — I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend and I’ll scribble some tomorrow or at least do a major picture post of — well, you know — favourite stuff 🙂

Shalom,

Just Be.

Life can be hectic at times, but it’s important that we all remember the simple things.  It’s the simple things that give life fullness and direction.

I’ve been meaning to post, but I’ve been so incredibly busy — now that college football season is here and I’m fully vested in my new position (and HAPPY!) … I just don’t make time.  Of course, never totally sure just how many people actually read this journal … I see that it is being read because of the stats thing. 🙂  So, here’s the quick update on telly … RHoNJ — Delusional Danielle was let go … apparently, Danielle cannot even take responsibililty for ANYTHING even when it’s ON FILM — good riddance … hopefully, the show will be better next season … Real World: New Orleans – The roomies kicked Ryan out (hooray) and enjoyed their last few weeks with virtually no chaos, missing pills or other anti-social, passive-aggressive Ryan crap (cannot wait to see the Reunion when everyone gets to totally blast him based upon the footage seen — especially Preston!) … The Closer –  Brenda Lee wasn’t selected to be the Chief of Police — despite saving a large number of police officers, firefighters, et al. from a maniac … I don’t like the guy that did get the position & I hope he’s not a regular on the show …  Leverage – What a great season … cannot wait for the follow-up. 🙂 …   Rizzoli & Isles – Cliffhanger ending — I think someone is going to die and I know it won’t be Jane since she’s a leading character … not a big fan of the cliffhanger endings and this won’t be resolved until December!  Now, this week is big premier week … Hawaii 5-0 (CBS), Bones (Fox), The Big Bang Theory (CBS) and Fringe (Fox).

Of course, we’re in full swing with the college football season … FSU is now 2-1 — with wins over Samford (59-6) and BYU (34-10) and the loss to Oklahoma (47-17).  It seemed to me — as a spectator @ Doak Campbell yesterday (18 Sept) that FSU learned valuable lessons from their loss to Oklahoma … Ponder (7) had a pretty good day  14-21- 0  for 149 yards and 1 touchdown — although he did seem to be  little lackluster in the first half … but FSU ran for 278 yards in their 427 total yards on offense.  The ‘D’ stepped it up yesterday and they’re going to have to in order to be the dominate force they once were!  I watched the THRILLER between Auburn & Clemson — I really ‘hate’ both teams; however, I ‘hate’ Clemson even more (I don’t care about the ACC connection) and so, I cheered for Auburn for the ENTIRE game and loved watching Dabo Sweeney almost cry after they lost in OT!  Texas scared me as well … they really allowed Texas Tech to keep things close for way too long even in the second half — at least FSU pulled away from BYU midway during the 3rd Quarter — the Longhorns let Tech hang around way too long!

John Mayer’s new album — new to me at least — is absolutely incredible … here’s one of my favourite songs –

Well, that’s enough rambling from me … I’ve got some movies to watch!  Hope everyone has a GREAT week! 🙂

Ribbit, ribbit –

Bryce & Miss Nica

… absolute RANDOM moments of weirdness …

It’s official … Life is, in fact, good (click on the logo above to be taken to the actual Life is Good site to buy their way cool stuff) … it’s better … it’s back to normal and I couldn’t be happier … its been a long, long while since I haven’t felt like I was constantly having to walk on egg shells in my professional life.  And it’s apparent to my family and friends that I’ve turned the corner back to being the “old, but great, Bryce” … so, that makes me 🙂  a lot lately!  Other than regaining my passion about education, I’ve done nothing even remotely exciting, but that will all change soon enough!

Okay, let’s jabber about two of my fav reality shows … RHoNJ — loved the fact that Caroline met with Danielle (hereto forthwith known as “The Staubster”) and tried to bring reality to her little dream world – unfortunately, you just cannot help crazy people.  Of course, I’ve heard – from an extremely realiable source that The Staubster was released from her contract … even though she was good for stirring the pot (not that I like crazy people drama) and it was good for ratings — she’s a loose canon with her past, current association with felons and well, delusional thoughts of gradeur.  I’m betting that Dina comes back (wink-wink) and it’s either Kim “G” or Kim D filling the spot of the certifiable, delusional Danielle. 🙂

Real World: New Orleans … I said it a while ago — Ryan is Trouble – yes, with a capital “T” … And his whacked out behaviour has NOTHING to do w/ any OCD — I can speak confidently about that since I do, in fact, have a background in psychology.  If I had to guess … I’d say he is bi-polar.  He’s had too many “I’m a happy guy” to “I’m the Devil himself” moments and just absolute RANDOM moments of weirdness — that’s classic bi-polarism. Hands down.  And he’s heading home … sources plus clips of the next episode point to that fact.  I think the house will be a much better place without him there.  If it doesn’t happen, Bunim-Murray Productions and MTV should be ashamed of not getting him out of the house for some serious help.

I’m totally ready for college football season  — GO SEMINOLES — SCALP’EM!  And of course, the US Open … so ready for Rafa Nadal to conquer the hard courts in Flushing Meadows and bring home the US Open Men’s Single Crown!  So ready for my sport season to kick back into high gear!!!!!!!  Can I get a woot-woot!

Okay, now I have to go get brekkie with friends … maybe I’ll post more later this weekend! 🙂  Hope everyone has a great time at weekend!
